Train in stress

The worst enemy to your memory or one of the worst is stress. When you are stressed you will not be able to focus and a lack of focus will kill your memory. When I trained for the USA Memory Championship I hired a former US Navy SEAL, TC Cummings. TC taught me a quote he learned in the SEALs, ‘the more you sweat in times of peace the less you bleed in times of war.'

Einstein’s Willingness to Risk and Be Wrong

2016-10-22T08:52:56+00:00

The early life of Einstein gives us some clues to the great man that he would become. He was never one to dominate conversation to prove his intellect. Even as a child he didn't talk much. It has been said that he didn't talk until the age of 3 (there are conflicting accounts on this). However, what is not conflicting is that it took him a little longer to talk than the average child. But, we must remember that Albert Einstein was far from average.

Learning from Einstein’s Creativity

2016-10-22T08:52:55+00:00

One of the most famous quotes of Einstein is when he said, "Imagination is more important than knowledge." Einstein was putting value on creativity here. His theories and ideas were all about creativity. When he made a working box car for his son out of shoe string and some boxes, that was creativity. When he was down and out and needed money and posted an ad for tutoring lessons; that was creativity in making money.

One of the major factors in slowing your reading speed down is that your eye is going to do something called, ‘Visual Regression'. This means that when you read a sentence your eye will go back and read words that you have already read. Your mind/eye does this very fast that you are not fully aware of it but it still dramatically slows down your reading speed.

Sounding out words

One of the techniques that we teach in our brain athlete package is that verbalizing words as you read is going to slow you down. Even if you are saying the words very softly to yourself in an inaudible tone, the time you are taking to pronounce the words and move your vocal cords is going to slow you down

Your brain is like any other part of your body, the better that you treat it through good nutrition and exercise the better that it will work for you. The months prior to a memory tournament I want to prepare my body and brain to be in top shape, because they work in tandem.

Is Gingko Biloba The Memory Cure?

2016-10-22T08:52:55+00:00

Pharmaceutical companies are making a fortune by promoting Gingko Biloba as the “brain herb,” sought to be the magic cure for memory loss. If this is true, am I wasting my breath by showing people how to enhance their memory when all they have to do is take a little pill?
