Ron White the US National Memory Champion teaches keys to memory. In this article we will get into how your senses can be used to help you learn language – either a foreign language or to improve your vocabulary. Many memory centers encourage memorization and vocabulary as a way to learn a new language. They believe this will help you to start “thinking†in that language because you won’t have to keep looking up words and meanings. I want to give you a couple of tips to help you not only memorize faster, but retain it longer.
The brain is your command center. It sends signals to all parts of your body on how to work, how to understand what you see and hear, and stores your memories. So, if damage is done to the brain – through traumatic injury or cancer, the brain is not able to complete the commands. When a person has brain cancer there are several common treatments available: surgery, radiation, chemotherapy or a combination of both (Avoiding treatment is not recommended). Another alternative, that is not as common and non-invasive, is “Proton Therapy.â€

Yesterday I was contacted by a national morning television show to discuss memory and they asked me if I could discuss the value of memory training for the average person. In other words, they wanted to know. Is this stuff just good for memory experts or competitions or does it have a real life application to the ever day person? With the experience of 2008 behind me I was not focused on becoming the national memory champion. It is no secret that I am proud to be an American and to represent my country in the national tournament for my sport was an enticing idea. My strategy sessions for the 2009 tournament began about two months after the 2008 tournament in May of 2008. My first order of business was to email David Thomas (the former Guinness Record Holder for memorizing pi to 20,000). When I had met David a few months prior at the 2008 USA Memory Championship he said he was willing and ready to share his 'unbeatable' strategy for the tournament with anyone who would listen but no one had ever taken him up on the offer. I certainly wasn't above asking for help and I did just that by emailing David.
Isn't it amazing that an organ the size of a small cabbage controls all the functions of your body? The brain is an amazing instrument. It controls your heart, your emotions, your muscles, your senses and your memory. In essence, everything that happens within you is controlled by one large muscle, and like all muscles it starts to weaken with age.
This drives me nuts :) Who am I? My name is Ron White and I am a memory expert and two time USA Memory Champion. Is it going to hurt? No it won't. Does it exercise your brain? Yes it does! Is it better than nothing? Sure it is! However, if you have a student who wants to memorize all the presidents of the US and you tell that student.
